EWR upset residents further
Protect Poets - Save Our Homes
On the 30th March 2021 East West Rail (EWR) delivered letters to sixty six (66) homes in the Poets area of Bedford. These homes are under direct threat of compulsory purchase orders - meaning EWR is proposing to buy their home and/or garden. Having always proposed to use the existing four tracks into Bedford station EWR want to add an additional two tracks (making six) to deliver their services. It’s for this reason they want to buy up properties and/or gardens in Poets. EWR opened up a consultation process on the 31st March and it will run until the 9th June.
After holding a Poets residents community meeting on the 30th March a campaign group “Protect Poets - Save Our Homes!” was created. Our primary objective is to stop the purchase orders of homes and gardens in the Poets area of Bedford and protect the local and wider community from noise, vibration, pollution and disturbance. EWR plan to rebuild Bromham road bridge which has only recently been rebuilt and also waste the millions that was spent on it and create further havoc in Bedford.

About Us
The campaign’s steering group all volunteered to help drive the campaign following a community meeting held on the 30th March 2021. The eight local residents are mostly directly affected by the new proposals (their home is subject to a compulsory purchase order from East to West Rail). We each have a unique skill set and are passionate about our local community. We aim to work together with local residents to campaign against the latest set of proposals from East to West Rail. There are also established groups including BFare who campaigning against route E (the nothern route) and we hope to work together where themes overlap.
The primary objective of the Protect Poets - Save Our Homes campaign is to stop the demolition of any homes and preserve our community and neighbourhood.
